Join millions of people across the world and wear jeans with a purpose, support survivors, educate yourself and others about all forms of sexual violence. #denimday
WEAR denim. DONATE to support services. SHARE the message "My Jeans Support Survivors"

Why denim? There is no excuse and never an invitation to rape

The Denim Day campaign is run on a Wednesday in April in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent.

The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. The Denim Day campaign is a response to this case and the activism surrounding it.
Since then, wearing jeans on Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual harassment, abuse, assault and rape. In this sexual violence prevention and education campaign we ask community members, elected officials, businesses and students to make a social statement with their fashion statement by wearing jeans on this day as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual violence.
Denim Day is about action, not just awareness.

Denim Day 2026 in Pagosa Springs was incredible.
Our community wore denim with purpose and made a statement with fashion and standing in solidarity with survivors. And then you showed up again at the Liberty Theatre as we came together for our movie fundraiser event.
Your jeans became a statement.
Your donation became hope.
Your presence became a promise to survivors:

You Are Seen. You Are Believed. You Matter.
We are so grateful to see Pagosa Springs rise together.

Thank you for being part of a community that believes survivors, supports healing, and demands change.
